Theatrikos Theatre Company has been selected by Katie Hobbs as the recipient of the 2026 Governor’s Award, one of Arizona’s highest honors for arts and culture organizations. The award is presented in partnership with Arizona Citizens for the Arts and the Arizona Commission on the Arts.

The award will be presented on Friday, May 8 at 9:00 a.m. at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix.

“We are honored that Governor Hobbs continues to highlight the importance of the arts in Arizona, participating directly in the selection of this prestigious award,” explained Patrick McWhortor, CEO of Arizona Citizens for the Arts.

Established in 2023, the Governor’s Award recognizes an arts organization that exemplifies cultural leadership, sustained community engagement, and alignment with statewide arts values. Theatrikos was selected from a pool of Creative Capacity grantees for its more than 50-year legacy of producing high-quality theatre and expanding access to the arts in Northern Arizona.

“Theatrikos has long been a pillar of Flagstaff’s cultural community,” said Governor Hobbs. “Their commitment to artistic excellence and inclusive programming continues to elevate Arizona’s creative landscape.”

Founded in 1972, Theatrikos Theatre Company has grown into a cornerstone of the region’s arts ecosystem, producing a diverse range of theatrical works while providing educational opportunities and community-centered programming.

“This recognition from Governor Hobbs and our statewide arts partners is a profound honor,” said Jeremy Blunt, Executive Director of Theatrikos Theatre Company. “For more than five decades, Theatrikos has remained committed to creating meaningful artistic experiences that reflect and serve our community. This award is a testament to the passion and dedication of the countless artists, volunteers, educators, and supporters who have built and sustained this organization. We are deeply grateful and proud to carry this legacy forward.”

Additional awards presented at the ceremony will include the Shelley Award and the Oonagh Award, recognizing excellence in lifetime achievement and community collaboration. The event is made possible through support from Salt River Project.
