Flagstaff Celebrates International Dark Sky Week and 25 Years as the world’s first International Dark Sky City

From April 13-20, International Dark Sky Week (IDSW) raises awareness about light pollution, solutions to the issue, and celebrates the beauty of the natural night sky. IDSW takes place during the April new moon that allows the darkest possible skies for stargazing and coincides with Global Astronomy Month.

Today, Flagstaff remains the largest International Dark Sky City by population and continues to prove that economic vitality, public safety and star-filled skies can coexist.

2026 also marks the 25th anniversary of Flagstaff as the world’s first International Dark Sky City. Flagstaff Dark Skies Coalition is honoring “Flagstaff Silver Jubilee” with full calendar of events to mark this special year in Flagstaff.
