Born in Cali, Colombia, Guillermo Cortes moved back to his mother’s home state of Arizona in 1980 and to Flagstaff four years later. He is a graduate of Coconino High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from NAU in 1995. He began his career as an intern for ADOT in Flagstaff. Following graduation, he started working at Shephard-Wesnitzer, Inc. (SWI) in Sedona. In 2000, he became a partner in the firm and moved back to Flagstaff to help manage SWI’s downtown office. Guillermo is an active member in the local community including a strong supporter of NAU. In 2009, along with two partners, he opened KickStand Kafe, a local coffee shop. Guillermo enjoys mountain biking, road biking, and playing soccer. One of his favorite past times is traveling around the world with his wife, Jessica.
