The centerpiece of the day, of course, is the annual Pepsi/Chamber 4th of July Parade, which attracts more than 100 floats, bands and other entries marching on the streets of Historic Downtown before thousands of spectators. This year’s parade will begin at 9 am on Independence Day.
The second annual “Downtown Mile” race, presented by the Chamber and Team Run Flagstaff, will precede the parade at 7 am. Four waves of competitors will have the opportunity to see how fast they can cover a mile on a portion of the parade route.
Immediately following the parade will be the second annual – “What A Blast!” – Hot Dog Eating Contest sponsored by CenturyLink, the Flagstaff Chamber and Pay-n-Take. The contest is held in the lot adjacent to Pay-n-Take on Aspen Avenue.
The Flagstaff Chamber added these two events last year to extend the Independence Day celebrations and encourage tourists who flock to the city to enjoy the parade to make a day of visiting Flagstaff as well as provide even more excitement on the 4th of July.
“Boosting our local economy is the key reason why the Chamber puts on community-wide events like the parade,” said Flagstaff Chamber President/CEO Julie Pastrick. “Building on the parade gives us a chance to further promote Flagstaff as a visitor destination during the holiday and brings out locals by the droves who frequent our great businesses.”
