Other sporting events in February include NAU men’s and women’s basketball games plus track and field events.
Snowplay is a big part of our winter celebration. In addition to snowplay areas such as Wing Mountain a few miles out of town, Arizona Snowbowl and the Nordic Center are geared up for skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing.
For art lovers, there are several exhibits during the month at the Museum of Northern Arizona, the Coconino Center for the Arts and Coconino Community College. In addition, the First Friday Art Walk on February 6 is a great evening celebration of the arts. Stroll through numerous boutiques and galleries in Historic Downtown beginning at 6 p.m.
Care for a classic film? Every Tuesday evening during February, the Cline Library at NAU showcases a prize-winning movie as part of the NAU 2009 Spring Film Series. This month’s celluloid offerings include “To Kill A Mockingbird” and “The Country Girl.”
February is full of music and dancing, too. Folk star legend Richie Havens performs in Flagstaff this month with his distinctive vocal and guitar style. There are several other concerts as well, featuring everything from funk to traditional Irish music. For you dance fans, Flagstaff will again host a community contra dance.
Dining is another big part of Winterfest. Many Flagstaff restaurants offer Winterfest specials, such as Main Street Caterings “Winter Food Fest” each Saturday in February. In addition there are specially themed meals and events, such as the annual Robert Burns Supper on February 7.
This month is a wonderful time to assist many Flagstaff charities. The annual outdoor Snowball Slide for the Assistance League, Big Brother Big Sisters Bowling for Kids and the Denim and Diamonds Gala for the American Cancer Society all will occur during Winterfest Flagstaff.
