Anytime is the perfect time to visit Flagstaff. Located at the base of the San Francisco Peaks, Flagstaff has the beauty, charm and culture of a mountain town with the amenities of a larger city. Flagstaff also has a great location in Northern Arizona with Interstate 40, Interstate 17, Highway 89, Highway 89A, Highway 180 and Historic Route 66 all intersecting here. Many historic towns and major attractions are within two hours of Flagstaff making it the perfect spot to stay and take day trips to the different surrounding attractions.
Flagstaff is surrounded by national forests, which adds to the beauty of the town and provides an abundant source for recreation. In the spring, summer and fall visitors can enjoy hiking, camping, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing and more. With winter snow comes skiing, sledding, ice-skating and sleigh rides in the snow. At anytime you can explore one of the many Indian ruins that surround the Flagstaff area.
The local attractions have their own appeal to visitors. There are a number of museums that tell the tale of Flagstaff and Northern Arizona’s history. The Lowell Observatory and The Arboretum at Flagstaff are interesting and educational for all ages. For entertainment local musical and theatrical groups provide full seasons of entertainment. Art galleries and exhibits can be found through out the town and feature the work of local artisans and national shows.
Festivals make up a large part of the fun in Flagstaff. The summer and holiday season are full of arts and craft shows and fairs in parks and local buildings. The Fort Tuthill Recreation Area hosts the Pine Country Pro Rodeo, horse races and the Coconino County Fair among other activities. During the 4th of July the city comes alive with pride to participate in the local parade, fireworks and multitude of other activities. For Flagstaff the day doesn’t just celebrate the nation’s independence, but also the story of how Flagstaff got its name. The entire town celebrates the joys of winter during the month of February. Local community groups, organizations and business provide a variety of arts, educational, entertaining and sporting activities for residents and visitors to celebrate Winterfest. |
