"CRASH COURSE" ON EDUCATION
Flagstaff Community Foundation and the Arizona Business and Education Coalition invite you to a business/education "crash course" on school finance, accountability, and economic development. As a result of the Community Conversations held in April 2004, this crash course is offered to present new insights and understandings of school operations. The course will also begin to build a common language between educators, business leaders, parents, and all citizens. The underpinning of every Crash Course is the principle of "mutual respect, support and seeking to understand each other's perspectives." The event will be held February 2, 2005 from 5:00pm to 9:30pm at Flagstaff High School Commons. Registration will begin at 5:00pm with a light buffet dinner, with the course beginning at 5:30pm. CHAMBER RINGS IN THE NEW YEAR WITH NEW PRESIDENT

The chief fundraiser and marketing director at KNAU, Julie Pastrick, has been named the new President and CEO of the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce effective January 17th, 2005. Pastrick was chosen from a field of 18 applicants.
"Pastrick is very well-known and respected in the community, and brings with her great energy and enthusiasm as well as new ideas to continue to grow and improve the Chamber and carry out its mission," remarked LaVelle McCoy, 2004 board chairman, in a statement released in December.

Pastrick is an award-winning development director with extensive community leadership experience in diverse roles and organizations. Pastrick served two terms on the Chamber's board of directors and one year as the first female board chair from 1987 to 1994. She was the 1999 Athena Award recipient.

At KNAU, Pastrick was a member of the management team directly responsible for strategic planning, policy making, membership growth, business and corporate support acquisition, public relations, e-commerce activities, special events, and numerous non-profit collaborations.

Pastrick commented, "I'm thrilled to assume the Presidency of Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce and look forward to broadening our influence at the local, regional and state level."

INCOMING CHAIRMAN LOOKING TO FURTHER ENGAGE MEMBERSHIP

The new year begins with the passing of the Chairman gavel to Linda Lance, General Manager for Horizon Moving Systems. A long time resident of Flagstaff, actively involved in the community, Linda looks forward to her role as the Chamber Chairman.
"This is a new and exciting time for the Chamber," says Lance who plans to continue focus on business issues such as the Conference Center, Big Box Ordinance, Yavapai Ranch Land Exchange and Snow Making. However, Lance prepares to further engage membership in a "call to action" approach that will seek membership input making certain the direction of the Board is consistent with the needs of membership. "It's important that we strengthen membership communication efforts and listen to our member's, their active participation is vital to the success of this Chamber." Online and fax-back surveys will be used more frequently to help meet the most pressing needs of membership.

Lance stated, "I'm honored to lead this very distinguished Chamber and look forward to a productive year as Chairman of the Board."
