Big Box Referendum Survey

HOME > BIG BOX REFERENDUM SURVEY

The results of this survey will be used by both the Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee and Board of Directors to help shape the Chamber’s position (if any) on the city’s Big Box Referendum in May. Please submit your survey to the Chamber by no later than Tuesday, February 1, 2005.

This spring (May 17th), voters in the City of Flagstaff will decide the fate of a possible repeal of the recently passed Big Box Ordinance. The new ordinance would, among other things, limit any retail store to no more than 120,000 square feet, require a Conditional Use Permit for anything larger than 75,000 square feet and impose an eight percent limit on the amount of floor space any large retailer could use for the sale of groceries. The Chamber’s position on this issue was to oppose the City Council’s original passage of this ordinance. That opposition was based on the Chamber’s belief that limiting any future retail growth in Flagstaff, big box or otherwise, diminishes our city’s attractiveness as a regional shopping marketplace in northern Arizona while at the same time, puts Flagstaff at a competitive disadvantage to communities like Prescott, which are aggressively establishing themselves as retail shopping hubs. For more information about the Chamber’s position, call Government Affairs Manager Mitch Strohman at 774-4505 or Board of Directors Chairman Linda Lance at 774-1436.

Thank you.

QUESTION: As a member of the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce, do you want the Chamber to actively support the existing efforts to persuade city residents to vote against the Big Box Ordinance?
