Chamber Announces New Program to Combat Property Crime
Business Community to Partner with Flag PD, Silent Witness and the City of Flagstaff to Increase Arrest Rewards
(Flagstaff, AZ) – The Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce announced today that the business community will partner with the Flagstaff Police Department, the City of Flagstaff and the local Silent Witness organization to increase the local fight against property crimes. The new public-private partnership specifically targets graffiti violence.
“Our economy is largely based on tourism and visitors who enjoy our beautiful community,” commented Chamber President and CEO Julie Pastrick. “The business community is committed to having our best face put forward as we head into our tourism season and by taking a stand against graffiti violators, we’ll do just that,” Pastrick continued.
“We are especially grateful to our Silent Witness partners who have agreed to allow the use of their hotline for anonymous tips that will hopefully lead to the arrest of more graffiti violators,” Pastrick finished.
The new anti-graffiti program is designed to supplement the current work of the Flagstaff Police Department and the Silent Witness program. Currently, Silent Witness provides an award of up to $2,000.00 for information that leads to the arrest of a graffiti violator in Flagstaff, but only for graffiti violence that’s classified as a felony.
The new program is a partnership with Silent Witness and the business community to allow for anonymous tips that will hopefully lead to the arrest of misdemeanor graffiti violators, as well.
The Chamber has opened a separate local bank account that will contribute to those who help the Flagstaff Police Department arrest misdemeanor graffiti violators.
Local individuals with information on graffiti violators can contact Flagstaff’s Silent Witness Hotline at (928) 774-6111 or 1 (877) 29-CRIME to make an anonymous report. The reward will be paid for by the Chamber’s account based on the arrest for a misdemeanor violation.
Additionally, the Chamber of Commerce is accepting contributions for the reward account from local businesses that wish to help reduce graffiti violence in Flagstaff.

NEW AIR SERVICE COMES TO FLAGSTAFF IN JUNE
Horizon Air Will Offer Twice-Daily Non-Stop Flights to LAX
Horizon Air announced March 31, 2008 that it will offer two daily flights to Los Angeles from Pulliam Airport starting June 23. Introductory one-way fares from Flagstaff will start as low as $89 to Los Angeles, $139 to Seattle and $129 to Portland, Ore.
"The business community has long been working towards a second airline servicing our community. It is a huge economic boon for many companies to be able to conveniently fly staff out to LA and also bring customers and business associates into town from points across the globe from one of the most popular aviation hubs." said Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Julie Pastrick. "The Chamber Board of Directors has long supported the extension of the airport's runway, which made the search for an additional carrier possible."
Prior to this announcement, Pulliam Airport had only offered one airline to one destination.
With the addition of Horizon, Flagstaff-area residents will gain an easier way to travel to Southern California and new, easier access to flights to Asia, Europe and other overseas destinations through Los Angeles International Airport. THE VALUE OF CHAMBER MEMBERSHIP
By the Numbers
Did you know that in a recent study released by the American Chamber of Commerce, research has proven real value of being a Chamber member in terms of consumer outcomes? The survey tool yielded powerful results from 2,000 consumers because it bypassed the subjectivity of many opinion polls. Here is a sampling of the findings:
* Most consumers (59%) think being active in the local chamber of commerce is an effective business strategy overall; are 51% more likely to be aware of the business; and 57% more likely to think positively of its local reputation.
* When a company is involved in its local chamber, consumers infer that the company is trustworthy, involved in the community and an industry leader.
* Seven out of ten consumers believe that being actively involved in the Chamber is an effective strategy for enhancing a business' reputation and demonstrating that it uses good business practices.
* When consumers know that a small business is a member of the Chamber, the business enjoys a 44% increase in its consumer favorability rating, a 57% increase in its local reputation and consumers are 63% more likely to buy from it.
We would like to encourage members to benefit from these perceptions by showing off your membership.
