Candidate Survey Responses – On The Issues – Each Question, All Candidates

8. Describe your level of commitment to our City’s airport and its needed improvements beyond the airport runway extension.
Mayor Joseph Donaldson
I am committed to supporting the community economic engine at the airport. As a full-time mayor I will commit whatever time it takes to secure the local, state and national funding to keep our airport that viable economic engine it is and must become. Not only do our businesses depend on access to national and international markets, but local citizens want access to regions beyond Flagstaff. We need to expand and improve the terminal facilities to accommodate the increased passenger traffic. We also need to improve the parking areas to accommodate additional parking needs to serve passengers flying on our newest airline, Horizon Air.

Sara Presler-Hoefle
The expansion and redevelopment of Flagstaff Pulliam Airport allows the accommodation of jets and increased transportation opportunities.  I certainly hope the significant revenue guarantee provided to Horizon Air improves transportation into and around Flagstaff.  I am hopeful that this investment will pass along revenue to local businesses, and I expect that it will.  I signed up for the Horizon Air frequent flyer program.

Karla Brewster
The runway was critical for Flagstaff’s future development and retention of some of our present businesses, along with an option of another airline.  I am committed to the improvement needs of the airport which includes added security, better check-in services, better personnel amenities, such as more seating, bigger lobby, a restaurant, etc.  Flagstaff has to get out of the idea that they are still a small rural town and be able to compete on more of a state and national level.  The airport is so important to our future development, particularly, if we are looking at the biosciences, health professions and businesses that the NACET will help develop so that the people connected with these companies have accessibility to other parts of the state, nation and international connections without driving to Phoenix.

Coral Evans
Certainly our airport is vital to the growth of our local economy and I support its development as a full regional airport.

I am looking forward to learning more about its needed improvements in support of that goal.

Morgan Hagaman
I will be committed to doing everything I can to help the airport.  Any improvement we can do to our airport will benefit Flagstaff.  A better airport will help our current businesses expand and become more successful and will attract new businesses to coming to Flagstaff.  A more improved airport will benefit Flagstaff’s economy and benefit the citizens’ of Flagstaff.

John McCulloch
I hope all the citizens of Flagstaff and the greater region utilize the new air service to LAX this coming year.  We have invested an awful lot of tax dollars so far to make this a viable venture.  I was on the council when we built the new terminal.

Micole Shorty
We need to focus on citizens that live here first before we even think about airport expansion.  This will only contribute to our housing gap, as it will attract more people that are able to purchase their summer home here.  We should think of all the repercussions beforehand.

Al White
I supported the extension as the means to bring updated and expanded air service to town.  Now we have another carrier to another market.  We must accommodate the needs of more customers and improve ground transportation in order to be successful.  We have exceeded one ten year master plan and the land exchange will round out the next.
