Candidate Survey Responses – On The Issues – Each Question, All Candidates

17. Are you committed to maintaining the Arizona Cardinals summer training camp in Flagstaff? Do you view the partnership with the Chamber and NAU on this issue as a priority or not a priority?
Mayor Joseph Donaldson
I am committed to maintaining the Arizona Cardinals summer training camp in Flagstaff and I do view the financial partnership with the Chamber and Northern Arizona University as beyond a priority but an imperative.

Sara Presler-Hoefle
Yes, I am committed to maintaining the training camp in Flagstaff.  I used to work conferences at Northern Arizona University with the Arizona Cardinals as residents in my building.  I think that the training camp boosts our local economy and promotes jobs, tourism, and community activities.  Hosting the Arizona Cardinals is a tradition we should continue to celebrate in Flagstaff.  We have to make sure that we maintain a good relationship with the Arizona Cardinals, because this tradition has a positive economic effect on our City.  And, it is a lot of fun!

Karla Brewster
Yes, I am committee to keeping the Cardinals here in Flagstaff.  They bring in a lot of $$$ to Flagstaff.  Because of the dollar, tourist and local interest in the training camp, it should be a priority to keep this partnership with NAU as both entities benefit.

Coral Evans
I think that having the Arizona Cardinals summer training camp here in Flagstaff is a positive thing for the community, both economically and image-wise.  I do feel however that we need to contain to seek out and expand these types of possibilities/partnerships.

Morgan Hagaman
I am committed to keeping the Cardinal’s in Flagstaff.  This program is a big positive for the community and needs to stay in Flagstaff.  Our local businesses prosper because of this, which only helps Flagstaff.

John McCulloch
Yes, I consider the partnership a positive one and would do nothing to diminish it.  I must confess that I have been a lifetime Giants fan.

Micole Shorty
Absolutely, I think it is imperative that we continue to provide the opportunity to expose our youth to the positive role models that are on the team.

Al White
I think it has a place in our economic program, bringing visitors and the team here.  I would like to see the Cards do a scrimmage with another NFL team in the Dome.  I view the relationship as worthwhile marketing but feel we need to be vigilant for expansion or new marketing ideas- is there a way to track results- every advertising dollar should generate eight dollars in return- who is monitoring?  Who is planning?  It is an opportunity for Chamber, NAU, & CVB to partner but it is a relatively small priority for new tourism development.
