Governor Jan Brewer outlined her plans to encourage a more vibrant private sector in Arizona during her keynote speech at the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting.

Brewer focused on her “four cornerstones” of reform that she is proposing – economic competitiveness, education, state government and renewed federalism. “I do believe that state government does have a role to play in job creation, and that is  to provide a stable, predictable, business-friendly environment,” she said.

The Annual Meeting also featured the passing of the gavel from 2010 Chairman of the Board Gary Seley to 2011 Chairman Mike Loven of Loven Contracting. The ATHENA and ATHENA Young Professional Awards were presented, respectively, to Brenda Silveus of Pioneer Title and Sarah Holcomb, an attorney and lecturer at Northern Arizona University.

Paul Turner was presented the “Volunteer of the Year” award by the Chamber for his efforts to have the city recognize local professional firms as being “value added” when under consideration for city contracts. City Councilman Scott Overton and Flagstaff Zoning Code Administrator Roger Eastman were given the Chamber Business Achiever Award for their work in having the city’s land development code re-written. Annette Fallaha, of Fall Into Nature Bed & Breakfast, was named Ambassador of the Year.
